Pathways to Careers

What is Pathways to Careers SOHS? 

  • An opportunity open to eligible students during their senior year who hope to earn their career readiness status through employment and/or an internship. 
  • This experience provides an opportunity for students to work with a team consisting of a school advisor and employer to develop and improve on skills necessary to be successful in a work-based setting. 

Initial Step

Requirements (all must be met)

  • Student must meet the following criteria:
    • minimum 2.75 gpa
    • no more than 4 unexcused absences in current school year

work during the hours of the pathway class period(s)

  • Students must demonstrate academic readiness by meeting ACT benchmarks
    • English subscore, 18+
    • Math subscore, 19+
    • Reading subscore, 20+
  • Students must be prepared to interview with a panel who will determine final acceptance to the program. 

Note: If a student is not accepted to Pathways, they can submit an appeal/review request in the form of a typed letter explaining why they should be reconsidered as well as where they will be working and how it will benefit them. However, no requests will be accepted after the last day of the current school year to be considered for the upcoming school year. 

Maintaining Enrollment During School Year

  • Student Expectations
    • No safety or behavior concerns
    • No attendance issues
    • Work during pathway period times
    • Complete required checkpoints 
  • Failure to adhere to student expectations may result in removal from the program to ensure the continued success of the student
