Course Levels/College Course Work Opportunities

Course Level

Standard Level

Standard courses are a comprehensive coverage of the required Kentucky Academic Standards designed for students wanting to master the subject. 

Advanced Level  (ADV)

Advanced courses go beyond the required Kentucky Academic Standards to challenge students to develop a deeper, more rigorous understanding of the content. 

Advanced Placement Level  (AP)

The advanced placement courses are high school courses with college-level curriculum and exams created by the College Board.  AP Courses are developed and sanctioned by the College Board.  

Dual Credit Level

Dual credit courses are college courses that have been approved for students to complete while still enrolled in high school. Completion of these courses result in high school and college credit(s).

POSTSECONDARY READINESS

A student demonstrates post-secondary readiness when he or she meets at least one readiness indicator from the Academic Readiness AND the Career Readiness criteria below.  It is our goal to support all SOHS students in meeting both graduation requirements through rigorous academic coursework that demonstrates Academic Readiness in addition to exploring pathway opportunities that support students in demonstrating Career Readiness.

Meeting or exceeding a college readiness benchmark score on the college admissions examination on a college placement examination approved by the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE)

CAREER READINESS

  • Valid Industry Certification for Career Pathways
  • Complete one (1) of the approved CTE Dual Credit Courses with a letter grade of “C” or higher
  • Pass CTE End of Program (EOP) Assessment
  • Complete Pathways to Careers program through SOHS or Internship through Arvin
  • Enrolled in a Track Pre-Apprenticeship or Youth Apprenticeship program who receive the Track certificate.
